Choosing a razor can feel like a difficult process. Not only because you’r skin must be comfortable with the option that you choose, but there are also so many different options out there that it can be a bit overwhelming.
To help you make a decision, we decided to go through each of the main options. We’ll explore some of their respective pros and cons, whether that’s how eco-friendly they are or how convenient they might be to travel with.
Straight edge razors
If you’re looking to get a straight edge, old-school razor, then it’s worth taking a look at these kind of razors. Straight-edge razors are renowned for providing one of the highest qualities of shave, with minimal irritation and an extremely close end result.
Not only are they an effective tool, but they’re also likely the most eco-friendly option available. Unlike with cartridge, electric and safety razors, where you regularly have to replace the blades, you can keep on sharpening and honing a straight-edge razor yourself for years to come.
Cartridge razors
Cartridge razors are likely the most accessible and convenient option available. They require pretty much no skill to use, and are ready to go straight out of the box.
Good quality cartridge razor can also provide a pretty impressive end result. Although cheaper ones can be both ineffective and irritating to your skin.
They’re not the most environmentally friendly though. You’ll regularly need to dispose of metal blades and the plastic housing. If you’re off travelling and stuck for options, they’ll likely be your best bet!
Electric razor
If you’re looking for convenience, then electric razor will probably be the best option for you. While they likely won’t provide you with the tightest shave out of the options on this list, and they can be on the more expensive side, they are incredibly safe and easy to use. And they get the job done rapidly.
If you’re a frequent traveller and don’t want to have to dedicate time to your shaving routine, then it’s definitely an option that’s worth considering!
Safety razors
Lastly, if you want a slightly more old-school solution without the added danger of using a straight-edge razor, then it’s definitely worth considering safety razors.
With their single blades and sharp angles, they can achieve an incredibly satisfying end result. And they often won’t cost too much to keep at their best. They do still have a bit of a learning curve, but the right technique shouldn’t be too difficult to pick up for most people.
The great thing about your choice of razor is that it’s something you can always change. You can get any one of the options listed above for not too much money at all. Test them and see if they might be the right option for you.
That being said, we do recommend sticking with one option for a little while before switching things up again. Some razors have a bit of a learning curve, and it’s absolutely worth sticking with it until you’ve perfected your technique.
